CSRD for you
The advent of CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) requires many European companies to report on their sustainability metrics. These regulations expect organizations to act sustainably and responsibly with materials and resources in the workplace.
Is CSRD important to me?
Does your company fall under the criteria for large companies? If so, you may have to report if you meet two of the three conditions:
- More than 250 employees
- More than €50 million in sales
- More than €25 million in assets
However, in 2025, the Omnibus "stop-the-clock" decision formally and legally delayed the start of reporting for these groups. On Wednesday, Sept. 3, further simplifications in scope or reporting content are still pending, but from the stop-the-clock decision is now final.
In addition, you have to take into account price increases and changes in products, services or practices that large companies in your supply chain are implementing to comply with CSRD.
When to report?
Because of the stop-the-clock decision, the start of reporting is:
- Wave 1 (company already covered by NFRD): in 2025 on FY 2024.
- Wave 2 (large companies based on criteria): report in 2028 on FY 2027.
- Wave 3 (listed SMEs): report in 2029 on FY 2028.
Please consider a furniture management system
For office-based organizations, a furniture management system can give you an edge, as it also makes it easier to keep track of your furniture emissions. Knowing what you have in your home at all times is where it starts. With Alvero Furniture Management it is even possible to see material passports of furniture.
What does this mean for SMEs?
Even if you are not directly required to report, you may experience impact through the value chain. Large customers may request carbon emissions, material use and other ESG data. The EFRAG-USME standard provides a voluntary, simplified framework for unlisted SMEs to respond appropriately.
What you can do right now
- Start CO₂ reporting ahead of time.
- Consider a furniture management system for visibility into inventory and impact.
